The most recent incident at BHP Roxby Downs, a haulage equipment failure, may have been the result of overuse.
AWU members on site have reported that BHP was warned about over loading equipment designed to haul 7 million tonnes of material a year by up to 30%. According to AWU members, numerous repairs were carried out on the haulage equipment that finally failed during the week.
'We are just so fortunate that no one was killed in this incident, as it clearly had the destructuve potential.' Wayne Hanson said.
